The 24th Annual Conference of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies

"Beyond the Bluegrass: Harnessing Research to Enhance Quality-of-life"

August 11-14, 2026; Lexington, Kentucky, United States of America

Travel, Visas, and Participant Safety — August 2026 Conference (Kentucky, USA)

We are aware that some prospective participants have expressed concerns about traveling to the United States due to uncertainty around U.S. visa policies.

We would like to provide clear and accurate information to help address these concerns.

1. No conference-related travel restrictions are in place

At present, there are no U.S. immigration policies or visa regulations that specifically restrict attendance at academic conferences such as ours. Standard visa categories used for conference participation (e.g., B-1/B-2 visitor visas) remain in effect. Visitor Visa

Any future changes to U.S. immigration policy would be public, gradual, and formally announced, and would not be applied retroactively or without notice.

2. Academic and professional travel to the U.S. continues as normal

Thousands of international scholars, students, and researchers enter the United States every month for conferences, teaching, research, and collaboration. Universities and academic societies across the U.S. continue to host international events without interruption.

There is no evidence that conference attendees are being denied entry due to academic participation.

3. The conference location is safe and welcoming

The conference will be held in Kentucky, a state with:

  • major public universities

  • an established international academic community

  • a strong history of hosting global scholars and events

Conference venues, hotels, and campuses operate under standard safety, accessibility, and non-discrimination policies.

4. Institutional support will be provided

For participants who require a visa:

  • We will provide official invitation letters and documentation to support visa applications.

  • Our organizing team can advise on timelines and standard procedures for conference travel.

  • We encourage participants to apply for visas well in advance, as is standard practice for international travel.

5. Personal safety and academic freedom

There are no restrictions on academic expression, conference participation, or scholarly exchange related to the conference. Attendees are not subject to special scrutiny because of their research topics, institutional affiliations, or conference attendance.

6. Ongoing communication

We are closely monitoring the situation and will:

  • Share verified information promptly if any relevant policy changes occur

  • Update participants through official conference channels

  • Work with our host institution and partners to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees

Our commitment

The International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies is committed to:

  • international scholarly exchange

  • inclusivity and accessibility

  • the safety and well-being of all participants

We look forward to welcoming colleagues from around the world to Kentucky in August 2026.
