ISQOLS Webinar,
"Selective Higher Education and Students’ Wellbeing"
Featuring Dr. Sarah Fleche
Wednesday, 8 October
10:00 am EDT/4:00 pm CEST
This webinar will delve into the effects of selective higher education on students’ well-being, based on joint work with Valentin Tissot. In France, admission to selective higher education programs is determined through a centralized placement system. Using a regression discontinuity design, the presentation will show that enrollment in a selective track leads to a substantial increase in student satisfaction.
The discussion will highlight potential mechanisms driving this improvement, particularly whether students benefit from a better study environment in such programs. Exploring heterogeneous effects, the presentation will also demonstrate that male students and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds experience the greatest gains in well-being.
By providing new evidence on the well-being impacts of selective education, this webinar aims to offer valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners dedicated to fostering student well-being and educational success.
