ISQOLS Webinar:

"Redefining Urban Inequalities in Relation with Quality of life and Well-being: the importance of citizen’s participation"

November 21, 2024

10:00am EST/4:00pm CET

Presenter: Graciela Tonon

The study of inequalities expanded during the 21st century, not only related to the economic field but also to many other topics such as gender, age, housing, education, health, culture, ethnicity, employment, geography, among others. That is why we must recognize that inequalities are important for the well-being and quality of life of people, communities and societies. In this webinar we will review the concept of inequality considering its different theoretical conceptualizations and its new classification. Furthermore, we will characterize urban space and the existence of spatial inequalities. Then we will advance in the study of the relationships between inequalities, people's quality of life and community well-being, proposing some new dimensions of analysis to consider in studies on the topic. Finally, we will highlight the role of the actors in the process of generating public policies to overcome inequalities: on the one hand the importance of citizen participation considering the emergence of new citizenships in the societies of the 21st Century and on the other hand governments that generate a social protection system that truly responds to the people`s needs.
