ISQOLS WEBINAR:
Aversion to Happiness Across Cultures
Wednesday, 22 January
9:00 am CET/5:00 pm KST
Presenter: Mohsen Joshanloo
Happiness is often considered a universal human aspiration. However, research has identified a phenomenon known as aversion to happiness or fear of happiness that challenges this assumption. This aversion can manifest itself in a variety of ways, including discomfort with positive emotions and deliberate avoidance of joyful experiences. This webinar explores the concept of aversion to happiness, focusing on its measurement, underlying causes, and implications. Drawing on key findings from empirical research conducted over the past decade, this presentation will provide an up-to-date synthesis of what is known about aversion to happiness at both the individual and cultural levels. The implications of these findings for the global conceptualization and measurement of well-being will also be discussed.
